History

DuPage Medical Group was formed through the combination of three organizations.

Glen Ellyn Clinic was formed in the early 1960's by five physicians who wanted to do something significant for health care in the Glen Ellyn and Wheaton communities. They had excellent training and practice experience, and believed that patients should be able to receive high quality and specialty health care in their community. They formed a group practice and purchased land in downtown Glen Ellyn, near the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Prospect Street, and constructed a medical building. Over the years, the Glen Ellyn Clinic grew to over 70 physicians of nearly every specialty and expanded to adjacent communities in DuPage County.

Just a few miles away in Wheaton, another medical group was formed in the early 1960's. This group, Wheaton Medical Clinic, was also formed by a small group of physicians who wanted to bring high quality patient services to the Wheaton community. Land was acquired on North Main Street and a new medical building was constructed. Over the following years, Wheaton Medical Clinic grew to over 20 physicians and became a well-known institution in Wheaton.

In 1995, a number of leading, independent, primary care practices in DuPage County decided to form a new medical group practice called Mid-America Medical Group. These independent primary care practices had been present in the community for decades (some back to the time the Glen Ellyn Clinic and Wheaton Medical Clinic were formed), and they formed Mid-America Medical Group to pool their resources to provide expanded services to their patients.

In 1997, the Glen Ellyn Clinic and Wheaton Medical Clinic combined and in 1998, Mid-America Medical Group merged with this new entity. In 1999, DuPage Medical Group was officially incorporated.

These organizations combined because they shared a common interest for providing leading medical care in a community setting and for working collaboratively in a group practice.
