Women’s Health Fair this Saturday, October 11, 2008

Please join DuPage Medical Group as we present a Women’s Health Fair this Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 430 Pennsylvania Avenue in Glen Ellyn, Illinois 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Five free physician health presentations will be offered:
10:00 am - Preventing heart disease in women, Evan Pappas, M.D.
11:00 am - Understanding menopause, Jody Freeman, M.D.
12:00 pm - Taking steps to avoid osteoporosis, Elisa Rhew, M.D.
1:00 pm - Recognizing and understanding anxiety and depression, Janet Kamer, Ph.D.
2:00 pm - Diabetes and you, Stephanie Heavey, M.D.
This Health Fair is open to all, including children. There will be fun activites and crafts for kids and free giveaways and raffles for adults. So bring a friend to enjoy the day and learn how to have an active and healthy lifestyle at any age. Specialty booths include:

The Institute of Sleep Medicine of DuPage Medical Group invites you to attend the next in our quarterly series of Patient Education Seminars focusing on sleep issues.
Andrew Yu, M.D., A.B.S.M., will address the question “Why am I so tired all the time?”. After the presentation, there will be an open forum for questions dealing with general sleep issues, including obstructive sleep apnea and CPAP.
All patients, families, caregivers and the community are invited to attend this free educational event. Food and beverages will be provided.

Keeping Healthy During Flu Season

Using common sense can go a long way in keeping you healthy and free from viruses. Dr. Michael E. Fitzgerald was quoted in the October edition of Naperville Family Magazine regarding staying healthy. Covering your mouth and nose when you cough, washing your hands often with soap and water or at least with an alcohol-based cleanser, and staying away from people who are sick will help you stay well this season. Dr. Fitzgerald also discusses the use of FluMist which can be used for patients between the ages of 2 and 49 years old as well as possibly using antiviral prescription pills.

DuPage Medical Group Supports American Heart Association’s Heart Walk for Healthier Lives

DuPage Medical Group is proud to announce that we have again joined the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. To that end, we are participating in the AHA’s signature fund-raising event, the Heart Walk. In addition to raising vital funds for heart disease and stroke research and education, the Heart Walk engages companies to promote healthy lifestyles for children and adults. Ed Carne, CEO of DuPage Medical Group, is serving as co-chair of this year’s event. Through personal pledges, employee efforts, and company sponsors, DMG has pledged to raise $100,000 for the 2008 Heart Walk.

Treating Trauma Survivors: November 19 - 21, 2008 at College of DuPage

Facilitated by Janet Kamer, Ph.D., DuPage Medical Group is partnering with the Business and Professional Institute and Human Service of College of DuPage and Center for Deployment Psychology to present a three day workshop for Psychologists, Counselors and Social Workers in the Chicago land area. The program is to provide evidence-based training to work with the currently deployed military personnel and returning veterans who are experiencing combat stress, acute stress disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries from their war experiences.
