April 14th marked another successful Belleza Open House.  The weather was beautiful and our event brought out over 260 people in attendance.  Each guest received a reusable tote bag with some goodies as well as a coupon book for discounted products and services.

Dr. Herrmann and Dr. Berggren were on hand to demonstrate Sclerotherphy, Botox, Dysport, and laser procedures via videotape.  Our aestheticians, Micaela Dorazio and Sandi Dan demonstrated a Hydrafacial.  Several product representatives were also in attendance to discuss their products.  See photos below.

Surprisingly, the advent of disposable contact lenses and multipurpose solutions has not reduced the number of adverse reactions such as eye infections and inflammation. How can an attempt to simplify contact lens wear result in more complications? The answer is directly related to your compliance with the recommended wearing and cleaning regime. Disposable contact lenses are prescribed for 1-day, 2-week or monthly replacement. As an eyecare professional I decide which modality is best for you based on your lifestyle. I also consider pre-existing conditions such as seasonal allergies, dry eyes and blepharitis which can affect your success with contact lenses. 

For example, a 16-year old with seasonal allergies will do best with daily disposable contact lenses. A clean fresh lens each day avoids build up and reduces the chance of an ocular allergic reaction. And solutions are not necessary with daily disposable lenses, which eliminates another possible cause for allergic reaction.  Another example is a 50-year old with dry eyes. The best modality for her may be a monthly replacement lens with a hydrogen peroxide-based solution. These solutions are preservative free and much less irritating to the surface of a dry eye, resulting in better comfort and increased wearing time.

Multipurpose solutions can be less effective against certain pathogens, and require both  rubbing and rinsing to ensure efficacy.  Complications such as decreased wearing time, blurred vision and redness can occur if you do not carefully follow the cleaning and replacement schedule recommended by your eyecare provider.
