DMG Recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month and our Breast Center Encourages Women to Schedule Annual Check-ups

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and physicians from DuPage Medical Group (DMG) are encouraging women to schedule annual check-ups. DMG offers same day appointment scheduling for services at their two breast centers for check-ups, procedures and imaging.
Studies show that early detection is critical in the successful treatment and survival of breast cancer. At DMG we know people have busy lives so that’s why we offer same day appointment scheduling. Patients can call our convenient central scheduling number at 630-961-4177 to schedule an appointment or talk to one of our two nurse navigators about any questions they may have.
DMG has 7 surgeons located in two breast centers - one in Glen Ellyn and one in Naperville. The facilities offer digital and diagnostic mammograms, physicians performing breast and stereotactic biopsies, partial breast irradiation (mammosite and contura), counseling and surgical treatments. The breast surgeons work in collaboration with DMG radiologists, oncologists and plastic surgeons to provide the most comprehensive care for our patients.
DMG breast centers offer genetic testing (BRCA 1 & 2) to determine a person’s risk of getting breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in this country other than skin cancer. Each year, more than 211,000 American women learn they have breast cancer. In 2009 40,170 died from breast cancer.
Women ages 35-40 should have a baseline mammogram done and after 40 should have one done every 1-2 years as directed by your physician Adult women should have an annual gynecological exam including a breast exam.
