Men vs Women - The Difference in Skin by Micaela Dorazio, M.A., L.E. at Belleza Skin Care Institute of DuPage Medical Group

Have you ever wondered how a man’s skin is different from a woman’s? Here are some differences to think about. Usually men tend to have thicker skin then women, and therefore produce more collagen and elastin. This is the reason why men tend to age slower than women do. Their skin is typically oilier as well which results in less wrinkles. Don’t let this fool you though. Men’s skin can also be sensitive due to the everyday scraping and tugging from shaving. Here are some tips to keep men’s skin balanced and fresh.
Tip #1 : Cleansing- Choose a cleanser that is non stripping, no soap! Soap is very dehydrating! Only Yours product line has a great selection of cleansers that suit the needs for every skin type.
Tip#2: Shaving- Please be extra careful when shaving. Choose a razor that is made for sensitive skin this will diminish the bumps and cuts. Also, shaving cream is a must each and every time.
Tip#3: Toning- Toning is a step not to skip. A toner will bring back the PH level of the skin, and removes what the cleanser left behind, and refreshes the skin. The toner needs to be alcohol free so it does not dry skin out.
Tip #4: Moisturizing- Moisturizer should be oil free and lotion based. Botanical ingredients are a great choice, to leave the skin soft and supple.
Tip #5: Sunscreen: Just because men have thick skin does not mean they should not use SPF. Sunscreen should be used daily and reapplied when outdoors. UVA/UVB sunscreens with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Oxide offer great protection without a greasy feeling. At Belleza we offer a variety of sunscreens for all skin needs.
Tip#6: From time to time, usually every 6-8 weeks, a deep cleansing facial would be the best maintenance in keeping the skin balanced and clear. Hydrafacial is a great option for efficiently removing dead skin and impurities while offering a deep cleansing for all skin types.
