Referral Services

The DuPage Medical Group’s Physical and Occupational Therapy Practice is excited to announce that we have expanded the scope of Occupational Health services available to Referring physicians and their patients.

Functional Capacity Evaluations: We now offer Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) using the widely recognized WorkWell System (formerly known as Isernhagen).  This two day test allows the therapist to evaluate the precise physical and functional abilities of the patient regarding strength, motion, and balance. This test also enables the therapist to assess functional performance activities such as lifting, carrying, walking, sitting, standing, squatting, forward bending, overhead reaching, pushing/pulling, ladder climbing, kneeling/crawling, crouching, hand coordination, etc. It is the thorough and objective evaluation of these tasks that helps our therapist determine when, and in what capacity, the individual can return safely to work.

Work Restriction Assessments:  In addition to FCEs, we have recently developed a Work Restriction Assessment screening.  This tool provides you with a thorough and objective assessment of your patient’s ability to return to work safely.  This is less formal than an FCE, but still allows for a refined and accurate plan for RTW for the Case Manger and employer, and gives the patient the confidence that they are ready to return to work.

Work Conditioning:  Following an initial Work Conditioning Evaluation, a work conditioning program can be set up for those patients who would benefit from an intensive, work-related, goal-oriented conditioning program.  This program is designed specifically to restore systemic neuromusculoskeletal function, muscle performance, motor function, range of motion and cardiovascular/pulmonary function.  The objective of this program is to restore physical capacity and function to enable the patient to return to work.  This can be offered in multi-hour sessions up to 4 hours/day, 5 days per week for an 8-week duration.

Our Physical and Occupational Therapists provide evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries including fractures, sprains, strains, tendonitis, and repetitive motion injuries.  Our OTs and Certified Hand Therapists are experts at treating complex upper extremity and hand injuries and have on-site custom splinting capabilities. We work closely with the patient, case manager, physician and the employer to manage the injury from the first visit through to the achievement of goals.

By utilizing the DMG Physical and Occupational Therapy department for the rehabilitation of your injured patients, you will ensure appropriate care, timely communication, accurate reporting of progress and a return to work in the safest, most efficient manner possible.

We are looking forward to serving you and your patients.
