Cold & Flu

The common cold and flu are viral infections in the body. While there are no medications or “cures” for either infection, people can take certain steps to avoid getting a cold or the flu, such as flu shots, a balanced diet, proper dress for the weather and vitamins. Symptoms of the flu and a cold include fever, chills, congestion, coughing, sore throat and body aches. Both the flu and colds generally last 1-2 weeks.

People with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may also experience pain while swallowing. Some people may be completely unable to swallow or may have trouble swallowing liquids, foods, or saliva. Eating then becomes a challenge. Often, dysphagia makes it difficult to take in enough calories and fluids to nourish the body.
