Fight Colon Cancer Risk with 7 Healthy Habits

By Lara Hamilton RDN, CDE

Along with having regular colonoscopies after age 50 (or earlier if your family history indicates), lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise are important defensive tactics to fight back against colorectal cancer. We highlighted seven simple changes you can make at any time of your life to begin lowering your risk for these highly preventable cancers.

The good news is, you can control what you consume and the activities you build into your day. With a little common sense and awareness of which foods may be bad for you, your healthy eating combined with daily exercise may decrease your risk of developing colorectal cancer. If you wish to discuss your diet with a DMG dietitian, call 630-286-5090. To talk with a gastroenterologist about your intestinal health and risk level for colorectal cancers, please call 630-717-2600.
