• Feelings of hopelessness, sadness, guilt, grief etc., that last longer than two weeks
• Extreme weight loss or weight gain
• Loss of interest in activities that you used to enjoy
• Lack of energy
• Thoughts of suicide or death

Risk Factors for Depression
• Drug or alcohol abuse
• History of an anxiety disorder or other mental illness
• Certain medications (make sure you talk to your doctor before stopping any medication)
• History of depression, bipolar disorder and suicide in your family
