What is an FAAD?

Most Dermatologists practicing in the United States are members of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dermatologists indicate this by placing FAAD after their names. FAAD stands for Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.”

To become a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a dermatologist must:

  • Have a license to practice medicine
  • Pass the board exams given by either the American Board of Dermatology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Be a member of the American Academy of Dermatology

Dermatologists are now required to repeat the board exams every 10 years. Passing shows they have kept up with all the medical advancements.
