DuPage Medical Group Now Offering 3D Mammography at all Breast CentersFebruary 10, 2016
DOWNER’S GROVE, Ill. – DuPage Medical Group, the largest independent, multispecialty physician group in the Chicago area, has completed its system-wide technology upgrade by adding 3D mammography to its Joliet location. Offering significantly improved imaging for breast cancer screening and diagnosis, the advanced technology is now available at all DMG mammography locations. These facilities are located in Bloomingdale, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Joliet, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville and Wheaton.
3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, is significantly improved from 2D technology. Rather than superimposing all tissue layers, 3D mammography provides images of individual breast structures, as well as views of tissue layers in one-millimeter increments. This advancement makes breast cancer easier to detect, particularly in women with dense breast tissue. Earlier detection is essential for increasing survival rates, as abnormalities can be found at an early stage when breast cancer is most treatable.
As part of the organization’s commitment to providing the highest quality care to its patients, DMG was the first to bring advanced 3D mammography to the western suburbs in 2013 and offers 3D mammography for both screening and diagnostic mammograms. As DMG’s footprint has expanded and new locations have been added, existing 2D technology has been upgraded to 3D, raising the level of care for breast health in these communities.
At DMG, all mammograms are interpreted by board-certified radiologists who sub-specialize in breast imaging and are specially trained in reading 3D mammography. If breast cancer is detected during a mammogram, DMG is equipped to care for patients from diagnosis to treatment and recovery through its fully integrated oncology program that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer.
“We are proud to announce that sophisticated 3D mammography imaging is now available across all DMG breast health locations and 3D mammography has become our standard of care for breast cancer screening,” said Dennis Fine, Chief Operating Officer of DuPage Medical Group. “As a leading radiology provider in the area, making this technology one-hundred percent accessible to patients is part of our steadfast commitment to offering state-of-the-art services.”
