DuPage Medical Group’s Joliet Breast Center Earns ‘Center of Excellence’ Accreditation

DOWN­ERS GROVE, Ill. — DuPage Med­ical Group’s Joli­et Breast Cen­ter, locat­ed at 2100 Glen­wood Ave., has been des­ig­nat­ed a Breast Imag­ing Cen­ter of Excel­lence, or BICOE, by the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Radi­ol­o­gy. DMG, which remains the largest inde­pen­dent, mul­ti-spe­cial­ty physi­cian group in the Chica­go area, began its oper­a­tion of the Joli­et Breast Cen­ter in 2015. The facil­i­ty uti­lizes advanced imag­ing tech­nol­o­gy that physi­cians use in diag­nos­ing, assess­ing and treat­ing the most com­pli­cat­ed med­ical conditions. 

The BICOE des­ig­na­tion is award­ed to breast cen­ters that earn accred­i­ta­tion in all of the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Radi­ol­o­gy’s vol­un­tary accred­i­ta­tion pro­grams, in addi­tion to a manda­to­ry mam­mog­ra­phy accred­i­ta­tion. In order to receive this des­ig­na­tion, a cen­ter must have achieved cer­ti­fi­ca­tion in the spe­cif­ic areas of stereo­tac­tic breast biop­sy, breast ultra­sound, ultra­sound-guid­ed breast biop­sy and mam­mog­ra­phy. In addi­tion, peer-review eval­u­a­tions, con­duct­ed in each breast imag­ing modal­i­ty by board-cer­ti­fied physi­cians and expert med­ical physi­cists, ulti­mate­ly deter­mine if a facil­i­ty achieved high prac­tice stan­dards in image qual­i­ty, per­son­nel qual­i­fi­ca­tions, facil­i­ty equip­ment, qual­i­ty con­trol pro­ce­dures, and qual­i­ty assur­ance programs.
