DuPage Medical Group First Freestanding Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) in Illinois to Conduct Same Day Robotic Radical Prostatectomy Utilizing da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System

DOWN­ERS GROVE, Ill. — DuPage Med­ical Group (DMG), the largest inde­pen­dent, mul­ti-spe­cial­ty physi­cian group in Illi­nois, is the first free­stand­ing ambu­la­to­ry sur­gi­cal cen­ter (ASC) in Illi­nois to per­form min­i­mal­ly inva­sive, out­pa­tient prosta­te­c­tomies using the da Vin­ci Xi robot­ic sur­gi­cal system. 

Locat­ed in Lom­bard, Ill., the Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter of DuPage Med­ical Group, the busiest ASC in the state of Illi­nois, func­tions inde­pen­dent­ly as a free­stand­ing ASC, pro­vid­ing patients access to out­pa­tient sur­gi­cal care with­out requir­ing a hos­pi­tal stay. While robot­ic rad­i­cal prosta­te­c­tomies using the da Vin­ci Xi sys­tem are still pre­dom­i­nate­ly per­formed in a hos­pi­tal set­ting, DMG urol­o­gist, Dr. Amit Patel, per­formed the first robot­ic rad­i­cal prosta­te­c­to­my at the ASC, allow­ing his patient to return home the same day con­ve­nient­ly and safely.

Patients who require a rad­i­cal prosta­te­c­to­my to treat prostate can­cer, can ben­e­fit in sev­er­al ways from the da Vin­ci Xi sur­gi­cal sys­tem. Dr. Patel oper­ates at low­er abdom­i­nal pres­sures, which can min­i­mize dis­com­fort from phys­i­o­log­i­cal changes. After surgery, patients not only return home the same day, but they also expe­ri­ence low­er infec­tion rates, decreased pain and swelling and accel­er­at­ed mobil­i­ty, enabling a faster recovery.

The Sur­gi­cal Cen­ter of DuPage Med­ical Group, locat­ed in Lom­bard, was cre­at­ed to pro­vide patients with out­pa­tient sur­gi­cal pro­ce­dures in a safe and com­fort­able envi­ron­ment.
