If you've ever broken a bone, or if your provider has identified you as having compromised bone quality or osteoporosis, it's important that you receive the appropriate treatment and follow up to make sure you don't break more bones in the future. Your provider may refer you to the DMG Fracture Liaison Service. Contrary to popular belief, compromised bone quality (also known as osteoporosis), impacts both men and women by altering the strength and structure inside your bones. Once you break a bone, your risk of breaking another bone increases 200 to 300%.
The Fracture Liaison Service can help prevent this by conducting a comprehensive bone health evaluation. With blood tests and imaging, we can determine if there is an underlying cause for poor bone quality, and develop a personalized plan (consisting of both lifestyle modifications and medication recommendations) to improve your bone strength and reduce the risk of future fractures.
Services of the Fracture Liaison Service include:
- Evaluation for causes of previous fractures
- Determine risk for future fractures
- Develop individualized treatment plans to optimize and maintain bone health
- Preventive care
- Diagnostic testing (Imaging and Laboratory Services)
- Medication counseling and management
- Nutrition counseling
