Lymphedema Treatment

Lymphedema can result from removal of lymph nodes, radiation therapy, trauma, chronic venous insufficiency or congenital conditions. While a cure is not known, a physical therapist can help manage the discomfort and swelling with compression treatments and manual lymph drainage (massage). Your physical therapist will teach you exercises that can stimulate lymphatic flow from the affected extremity and reduce your swelling.
