Accelerated Fractionation Radiation

The standard approach of giving external radiation treatment for five days a week for five to seven weeks can be inconvenient for many women. To make care more convenient, many physicians are starting to use different schedules. One of these schedules involves giving a slightly larger dose over a shorter period of time, known as hypofractionated radiation therapy or Canadian Fractionation (CF). Studies have shown that compared with radiation over five weeks, three weeks was just as effective at keeping cancer from coming back in the same breast in the first 10 years after treatment.
